Region offered FREE NDIS support

5 FEBRUARY 2018

Residents of the Murraylands and Riverland are invited to attend a series of free workshops that will simplify the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and help families and people with a disability plan its rollout in the region.

Workshops will be held 10am – 5pm at the Berri Hotel on Tuesday 20 February and the Murray Bridge RSL on Thursday 22 February, 2018.

The pre-planning essentials workshops are being run by Regional Development Australia Murraylands and Riverland (RDAMR) in collaboration with Carers SA.

The workshops will simplify and provide a thorough overview of the NDIS, help attendees determine their eligibility for the scheme, assist with registration, and identify what services they may be entitled to receive.

Attendees will also have access to tailored, practical advice during interactive group discussions.

“We receive direct feedback from carers, families and individuals with a disability that they need help simplifying the NDIS ahead of its rollout,” said Carers SA chief executive officer David Militz.

“This free workshop will put people in the best possible position to get the most out of accessing the scheme.”

Jo Podoliak, RDAMR chief executive officer, said the NDIS represented a significant opportunity for the region.

“The scheme will vastly improve the levels of service provided to those living with a disability but also provide future economic and workforce growth,” she said.

“Demand in the disability sector is set to double in the Murraylands and Riverland region by 2019. We will see an additional 300 full-time equivalent workers required to fulfil the increased demand for services.

“This means more jobs for people in the region and increased investment in a new industry growth sector, which will be fantastic for our region’s future.”

The workshops will be split into a morning session, 10am – 1pm (essential information about the NDIS), and an afternoon session, 1.30pm – 3.30pm (interactive group discussions). There will be a Q&A from 4pm – 5pm. A light lunch and morning tea will be provided.

Bookings for the workshops are essential. Registrations are via the RDAMR website (www.rdamr.com.au) by Friday 16 February, 2018.
