PLAY – recreational aspects of the region, link to DR and MRLC

People often come to the Murraylands and Riverland for a holiday, and – when they realise the abundance of opportunities, employment, affordable housing, community and outdoor lifestyle we have – they never want to leave.

Time spent on or near the Murray River leaves a lasting impression, and is undoubtedly our largest drawcard. Locals take full advantage of the Murray, spending weekends boating, kayaking, water-skiing, socialising or just relaxing on the riverbank with a fishing rod or a good book.

There is a growing selection of destination food and wine experiences, like Banrock Station for a glass of wine after a bushwalk, Wilkadene Woolshed Brewery for a craft beer overlooking the river, and sipping cocktails crafted from locally distilled spirits at 23rd St Distillery.

The region is also home to the famous Monarto Zoo – one of the largest open-range zoos in the world, and home to more than fifty species of exotic and native mammals, birds and reptiles.

The region is a great place for kids, with plenty of outdoor activities on offer, including in our national parks, playgrounds and the Monash Adventure Park.

The Bend Motorsport Park, currently under construction at Tailem Bend, will soon bring exciting international motorsport events and grass-roots club events to our region.

We invite you to come and stay a while, enjoy some river time, and see if you can handle the pace.
