A star employee quickly connected
When a vacancy emerged at Coorong Realty, a brief conversation between owner Kerry Simcock and Regional Development Manager, Vanessa Liebelt put the Career Connections network to the test. No time was wasted in connecting a skilled and qualified candidate and new arrival to the region, Nicki Fegan, with the role.
“What sets Career Connections apart from job agencies seems to be their level of intelligent, pragmatic support,” says Kerry.
“Often agencies will put forward candidates needing more development assistance than a small business can offer. RDA match people in a more nuanced way for the benefit of all parties, and more long-term results”
While it is still early days, Kerry’s new employee Nicki Fegan is settling well into her new role and new community.
There can be roadblocks facing qualified and skilled individuals moving to a regional area – matching their experience with meaningful employment is one that Career Connections is working hard to eliminate.
“Nicki moved to the area in March and met with Career Practitioner Cathy at our outreach location in Tailem Bend.” says Regional Development Manager Vanessa.
Nicki was job ready and did not need a high level of support. “I’d been talking to Kerry about her admin vacancy, but the position hadn’t suited anyone to date”
“I told Career Connections about the job and they flagged Nicki with me. She was a real gem with her solid qualifications and previous work.”
“The RDA made the process very easy,” Kerry adds. “Vanessa contacted me in case I or any of my networks might be interested. Nicki’s background in conveyancing stood out, and meeting her confirmed that she was perfect for the job.”
Kerry’s relationship with RDA now spans 20 years, including business development support. “I continue to be grateful for the services they offer the region.”
